Knoxville, TN — The Knoxville Transportation Authority (KTA) will vote on the following service modifications following a public hearing at the upcoming Board meeting on November 20, 2025. This meeting will be held at 3:00 PM in the Main Assembly Room of the City-County Building.
The objective of these service modifications is to maintain safe and reliable service with available staffing. The proposed modification is designed to preserve essential service and minimize disruptions.
KAT is continuing to recruit and train operators with a new class beginning each week. However, an emergency federal rule that requires a pause in issuing non-domiciled commercial driver’s licenses has caused a delay to the training timeline. This new emergency rule has caused delays in issuing commercial learner’s permits, which has delayed training schedules and the ability for trainees to obtain their commercial driver’s license.
Due to the above circumstances, the following route adjustments will begin on December 1, 2025.
Weekday Adjustments:
- Route 12: Frequency adjustment from every 30 minutes to every 60 minutes; departing Knoxville Station at :45 after the hour.
- Route 15: Frequency adjustment from every 30 minutes to every 60 minutes; departing Knoxville Station at :15 after the hour.
- Route 17: Service temporarily suspended.
- Route 20: Frequency adjustment from every 30 minutes to every 60 minutes; departing Knoxville Station at :15 after the hour.
- Route 42: Frequency adjustment from every 30 minutes to every 60 minutes; departing Knoxville Station at :15 after the hour.
Saturday Adjustments:
- Route 12: Frequency adjustment from every 30 minutes to every 60 minutes; departing Knoxville Station at :45 after the hour.
- Route 15: Frequency adjustment from every 30 minutes to every 60 minutes, departing Knoxville Station at :15 after the hour.
- Route 20: Frequency adjustment from every 30 minutes to every 60 minutes; departing Knoxville Station at :15 after the hour.
- Route 42: Frequency adjustment from every 30 minutes to every 60 minutes; departing Knoxville Station at :15 after the hour.
Sunday Adjustments:
- Route 12: Frequency adjustment from every 30 minutes to every 60 minutes; departing Knoxville Station at :45 after the hour.
- Route 17: Will continue the current 60 frequency and service schedule.
- Route 20: Frequency adjustment from every 30 minutes to every 60 minutes; departing Knoxville Station at :15 after the hour.
- Route 42: Frequency adjustment from every 30 minutes to every 60 minutes; departing Knoxville Station at :15 after the hour.
KAT will continue to provide updates regarding any route modifications.
KAT staff will present the Title VI Analysis and hold a public hearing at the November 20th KTA Board Meeting held at 3:00 pm in the City-County Building Main Assembly Room.
