Knoxville, TN – Knoxville Area Transit (KAT) is implementing several route adjustments to improve service efficiency, connectivity, and reliability for riders. These changes, approved by the KAT Board, will take effect on Monday, January 27, 2025.
The following routes will see modifications:
- Route 1 – Downtown Connector: Extended weekday service hours (Monday-Thursday) to match Friday’s schedule, with the last inbound trip at 10:15 PM from Depot Avenue and Williams Street. Routing revised to serve only Downtown, providing 15-minute service.
- Route 20 – Central/Clinton Hwy: Routing revised outbound from Knoxville Station to travel via Hall of Fame Drive and Magnolia Avenue instead of Hill Avenue and Gay Street, and inbound from Central Avenue via Magnolia and Hall of Fame to Knoxville Station.
- Route 22 – Broadway: Adjusted departure times from Knoxville Station to :15 and :45 past the hour to improve connectivity.
- Route 23 – Millertown: Expanded weekday service with the last trip at 7:45 PM and new Saturday service from 7:45 AM to 7:45 PM.
- Route 37 – Morningside/Riverside: Routing revised to serve Clifford Street, Isabella Circle, and Groner Drive outbound and inbound, and increased Saturday service frequency to every 30 minutes due to interlining with Route 23.
- Route 40 – South Knoxville: Routing revised to operate along Howard Baker Avenue, James White Parkway, Anita Drive, Sevier Avenue, and Island Home Avenue to regular route.
- Route 41 – Chapman Highway: Routing revised to operate along Hall of Fame Drive, Hill Avenue, James White Parkway to include Sevier Avenue and Blount Avenue segments to regular route.
- Route 42 – UT/Fort Sanders: The emergency detour implemented in October 2024 will become permanent until further notice to improve safety.
These adjustments respond to rider feedback and aim to enhance service reliability while maintaining accessibility across Knoxville.
