ROUTE 40 LONG-TERM DETOUR
Effective Tuesday, September 3, 2024, Route 40: South Knoxville will begin a long-term detour on its outbound route to improve on-time performance. Route 40 will also take a slightly altered route through downtown Knoxville inbound and outbound.
Outbound: From Knoxville Station, Right on Hall of Fame, Right on Church, Left on Locust, Right on Cumberland, Left on Henley, Left on Blount, Continue straight into Sevier, Continue straight into Island Home Ave, Right to stay on Island Home Ave, Continue straight into South Haven to regular route
Inbound: From Henley, Right on Main, Left on State, Right on Church to Knoxville Station

Route 40: South Knoxville is on a long-term detour due to Gay Street Bridge being closed for structure damage.
Outbound: From Church, left on Henley, left on Blount to regular route.
Inbound: From Council Pl, continue straight onto Blount, right on Henley, right on Church to regular route.
Stops Affected:
Gay @ Main, Gay @ Hill.

- Due to the Gay Street Bridge closure, Route 40 will use the Henley Street bridge inbound and outbound until further notice.
- To improve on-time performance, Route 40 will begin a long-term detour on it’s outbound route. Please view detour notice for details.

Snow Route
No service will be available outbound on Maplewood Drive, Island Home Boulevard, or Fisher Place. No service will be available on Gilbert Lane or McClung Avenue.
Severe Snow Routes
If weather conditions become severe, KAT may begin running on Severe Snow Routes. When this happens, service will ONLY be provided on the major corridors of Knoxville. This includes: Route 11: Sutherland/Kingston Pike, Route 12: Western Avenue, Route 22: Broadway, Route 31: Magnolia Avenue, and Route 41: Chapman Highway.
During Severe Snow Routes, all passengers ride free, but please note: KAT can return to Snow Routes before a passenger’s return trip and the passenger will be required to pay regular fare for that portion of the trip.
