Knoxville Area Transit is introducing a new on-demand transportation service called katConnect. The on-demand transportation service operates similarly to ride-sharing services and will connect passengers to fixed-route services.
The service area for this new program is Holston Ridge, Cassel Ridge, and Elk Hill Way Apartments.
How does it work?
Passengers will use the Transit app to plan their trips, book their rides, and view trip plans. To book a ride, the user enters their origin and destination, then taps the “request” button in Transit, allowing them to book the trip with a single tap. The cost for each ride will start at $1.00 and the service will operate the same hours as our fixed route service.
A katConnect vehicle will pick up passengers at the designated locations at Holston Ridge, Cassell Ridge, and Elk Hill Way apartments and drop off passengers along one of two possible routes:
- Route 12: Western Avenue at the corner of Texas @ Sherman
- Route 20: Central/ Clinton Hwy
- Outbound on Clinton Hwy @ Merchant, heading towards Walmart
- Inbound on Merchant @ Clinton Hwy, heading towards Downtown
From their chosen drop off location, passengers can ride either Route 12 or Route 20 to their destination, or ride to Knoxville Station downtown, and connect to any of our other routes. Tickets for our fixed route service must be purchased separately.
Passengers that are making return trips to Holston Ridge, Cassell Ridge, and Elk Hill Way apartments will book their rides using the Transit app, and will be picked up at the corner of Sherman and Texas using Route 12, or at one of the Route 20 stops listed above. A katConnect vehicle will pick up at these locations and return them to the designated locations at each apartment.
