Job Title: Road Supervisor
Supervisor: Operations Manager
Salary Range: 50,000-53,000; Exempt
JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Road Supervisor is responsible for field supervision of transit operations to ensure safe, reliable, and customer-focused service. This position serves as the frontline support for operators and represents the agency in the field during service disruptions, accidents, and customer interactions.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Monitor and respond to on-street operational issues, including detours, service delays, and vehicle breakdowns.
- Support Bus Operators through direct field communication and provide guidance in service delivery.
- Ensure service integrity through road checks, operator evaluations, and visual appearance assessments.
- Respond to and assist in accident investigations and emergency situations.
- Support and document operator performance, including commendations and necessary disciplinary actions.
- Maintain contact with dispatch and control center staff to facilitate efficient route operations.
- Assist with LIFT and contracted services oversight as directed by the Director of Operations.
- Complete reports on incidents, accidents, operator behavior, and road conditions.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in public transit operations or related supervisory role preferred. Exceptions may apply in accordance with KAT Employee Handbook.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Strong knowledge of Knoxville’s Road network, peak traffic conditions, and transit routes.
- Familiarity with transit rules, regulations, and emergency protocols.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to lead, train, and evaluate operator performance.
- Ability to safely operate all types of transit vehicles.
- Must possess or be able to obtain a valid Tennessee CDL Class B with passenger endorsement.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Frequently required to be in the field, exposed to varying weather conditions and traffic environments. Must be able to walk, stand, and occasionally lift items up to 25 pounds.
